St. Michael’s Choir School students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular league and intramural sports. The following is a brief outline of the school’s current year sports activities. Please check back regularly for updates.

High School Volleyball (Senior Varsity Team)

High School Volleyball (Senior Varsity Team)-Qualified for OFSAA

The senior team finished in first place in their division and then won round one and round two of their playoff series. In the semi-final they then met Neil McNeil and lost 1-3 thus ending their playoff run one game shy of the league championship game.

The team, however, was not finished for the year as they qualified for OFSAA “A” division provincial championship which was held in Bowmanville, just east of Toronto, on the weekend of November 27-28. Congratulations to coach Melino and the team for representing our school and league at the provincial championship.

Grade 5-6 Volleyball: (Junior)

The Junior (grade 5-6) volleyball team began its practice schedule on February 3rd and will compete in various tournaments over the next month leading into the school board tournament at the end of March.

Junior High School Volleyball: (Grade 9 -10)

The Junior high school volleyball team will begin to practice in March. More information will follow here.

Grade 7/8 Basketball (Intermediate)

Intermediate team takes second place at the Divisional Tournament! Congratulations

The intermediate team finished second in the divisional tournament and will now face St. Helen’s in the Regional second place tournament on Thursday February 18 at St. John’s School.

Grade 5-6 Basketball (Junior)

Boys in grade 5 and 6 are practicing for the Junior division tournament late in March. Practices have started at lunch time on Wednesday’s and will be after school starting later in February.

High School Intramural Basketball:

The intramural league is up and running for another season. The teams were picked and on February 9th we had our first exhibition games. League play starts on February 16th. All boys from grade 8-12 are welcome to play.

Swimming:

The TDCAA swim meet was held at the Etobicoke Olympium on Wednesday February 10, 2010 Johan Licht (gr.9) won two gold medals and two silver medals.

More than 45 students are taking part in the swim program this year under the capable direction of Mr Ian Gillis (Gr. 4 parent) and Mr. Woodger. The boys practice every Monday evening from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m

Hockey Program

This year the hockey skills development program is open to all students (Gr. 3-8) regardless of ability. All skills are taught by Mr. Steve Tschipper (a professional instructor) with a possible opportunity to field a competitive team that would represent the school in the Board-wide tournament this coming spring.
